There are lots of reasons people don’t get their portraits taken.
The top 3 excuses I hear are:
- I need to lose weight
- I’m too busy
- I can’t afford it
The following is my personal story…
My parents were coming up on their 50th wedding anniversary. In fact, they just had their 47th anniversary when this story began.
For her 50th anniversary, my mom asked for a family portrait. My sisters and I laughed at my mom because the 50th anniversary was 3 years away. Why ask now? There’s plenty of time.
Fast forward 3 years. My parents’ 50th anniversary came and went with no family portrait. Did we forget? No – how could we? My mom reminded me and my sisters any chance she could for 3 years.
So what happened? Excuse after excuse – starting with not being able to get everyone together at the same time. Too busy. We have plenty of time – it’s 3 years away!
But then, between the 49th and 50th anniversaries, tragedy struck. One of my sisters lost her husband. Since he was young (44), in good health, and in great shape, nobody saw it coming.
And then guilt set in about not getting the family portrait done. The 3 years of reminders didn’t seem so funny. The excuses were suddenly invalid.
In June 2014, my parents will be celebrating their 55th anniversary. And there’s still no family portrait hanging in my mom’s house. But there will be.
Our family portrait session is scheduled for the end of May. We ran out of excuses…
